Santa Pod 19th – 21st April 2019
Festival of Power

Hello again  subscriber here is the latest news from bradjacksonracing.com

We arrived at Santa Pod for the seasoning opening event, the Festival of Power, we were very proud to have the number one on the car for 2019 and of course we will be trying our very best to retain the Super Pro Championship title this year.

The weather forecast was great for the whole weekend and this turned out to be one on the best most consistent weather patterns we have raced in, the temperature, air density and humidity were almost identical every day making it a lot easier for Wayne to predict and dial the times in on the car.

Friday was qualifying day with only 2 runs today, the car had a full engine rebuild over the winter by Jeff Bull Racing Engines including a re bore and new pistons so we were expecting the car to run quick, Wayne decided to dial 7.68 but the car did run quick and ran a 7.65 breakout leaving Brad in a low 12th place.

Our second qualifier in the afternoon needed to be a much more concerted effort to get into the field because Brad had now slipped to 16th, Wayne decided on a really safe number that we wouldn’t breakout with and dialled 7.54, Brad ran a 7.63, 9 hundredths of a second improved Brad up to 8th.

Saturday brought another fantastic  sunny day, we had 2 more qualifiers and the first round of eliminations in the evening, Wayne now had some data from the new engine and dialled 7.63 and Brad ran 7.65, 2 hundredths of a second off dial in moved Brad up to 4th.

Our 4th and last qualifying run Wayne tried to “get it on the nose” and dialled 7.63 and ran 7.6296 which is 4 ten thousandths of a second too quick so this foul only just breaking out, the time equates to 1.23 inches at 175 mph, Brad had now slipped to 5th.

In the first round of eliminations Brad faced Mark Flavell in the 200mph funny car, Brad had a great 0.08 of a second reaction time and hole shot Mark to take the win, we could now have a restful night and looked forward to the 2nd round of eliminations on Sunday morning.

We awoke on Sunday to another glorious day at Santa Pod with fantastic sunshine and heat, Brad found himself against Collin Maurice, the No1 qualifier and a fearsome opponent , Brad kept his cool and pulled a 0.05 light to Collins 0.08 light which gave brad the edge at the finishing line and moved on to the quarter finals.

The way the ladder fell gave Brad a bye in this round but still had to do a full pass to try and get the lane choice in the semi final, Wayne dialled 7.65 and Brad ran 7.6480 , again the smallest of breakouts, 2 thousandths of a second or 6.13 inches at 174.28 mph !

In the semi final Brad was drawn against his sister Nick Good Motorsport car with Dave Catton driving it, Dave was a very difficult opponent for Brad because when Dave isn’t racing Dave crews for Brad and knows very well how we operate as a team, this is probably Dave’s last Drive in the Dragster because he is retiring this year, that said Dave wouldn’t be giving anything away and would be trying his best to beat Brad and win the event! Sure enough Dave’s 0.02 light gave Dave the advantage at the finishing line and Dave took the win.

So Brad’s defence of his title didn’t start with an event win but it did give Brad a great start to the season leaving him in 3rd place ( from 20 ) in the championship, effectively a net 2nd with Dave retiring,
